What is SAE?
Speed always enthralled us as kids, whenever we saw those Aston Martins , the Fords, the Ferraris, the Porsches it always left us awestruck and we always wondered about what goes into their making. Intrigue, passion, desire are the three precise terms that drive us 128,000 engineers and technical experts in the aerospace, automotive and commercial vehicles industry to be a part of an international organisation fuelling our dreams i.e SAE International. Our core competencies are life-long learning and voluntary consensus standards development.
SAE International’s charitable arm is the SAE Foundation, which supports many programs, including A World In Motion® and the Collegiate Design Series.
Mission: To advance mobility knowledge and solutions for the benefit of humanity.
Vision: SAE is the leader in connecting and educating mobility professionals to enable safe, clean, and accessible mobility solutions.
SAE Student chapter
Started in 2012, SAE student chapter has seen many transformations, and has grown significantly. The SAE chapter undertakes many workshops, industrial visits and seminars to expose the student to the current industry technology and bridge the gap between the college and industry.
The variety of the vehicles on which the teams work give the students exposure to almost every field in the automotive domain.
Events : SAE conducts a plethora of events around the year, covering varied and broad topics ensuring that there is something for everyone. For the year of 2020, events conducted cover a large spectrum of fields
SAE conducted a value added program in 2020, giving opportunity to the students to learn Matlab, helping them to learn industry software not covered in the curriculum, thus making them better prepared for their career.
In regard to the ongoing EV revolution in the automobile world, a workshop by Mr. Rakesh Sharma, Ex-Design Engineer at Indian Navy was conducted to get the enthusiasts up to speed with the new trends.
An Aero modelling workshop by DJS Skylark gave an insight to all the aviation aficionados about how an RC plane is designed and fabricated from scratch to witnessing its first flight. While a seminar on Jet propulsion by Mr. F.A. Shaikh, Asst. Gen. Manager at Air India, providing technical insights on Jet Engines and their working catering to the techies among us.
As the technologies are evolving we are at the crossroad where only traditional knowledge isn’t enough, and the need to learn unconventional new topics is more than ever before. Keeping this in mind, workshop on Geometry of Mechanisms and their application was remarkably presented by Mr. Ujjwal Rane. While a webinar on
Data analytics by Mr.Srinivas Tangudu was conducted to give an idea of how data analytics is changing the way the industry should work along with detailed knowledge regarding the field to the attendees.
SAE, like every year, conducted an orientation for the gear heads interested to become a part of one of the 9 collegiate vehicles in the college, where presentations by every team were given to the students to give them a good idea of what they do. Followed by an interview, after prospective students are recruited into the team.
Even a patenting workshop was conducted to give the students a unique opportunity to clear any doubts regarding the patenting and even file a patent for their projects, useful for the student for their higher studies and research.
An Industrial Visit was conducted to Kumaram Rubber Goods Mfg. Co. Pvt. Ltd. for the final year students where they were demonstrated what goes into making a tennis ball or rubber ball, which gave them exposure to the production process dynamics in the industry.
