The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is India’s leading recognised professional society devoted to the advancement of science and technology of Electronics, Telecommunication and IT. We, the students of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (EXTC) at D.J. Sanghvi are a student forum of IETE who are responsible for improving the standard of engineering education within our college.
Keeping up with our mission to offer a platform for budding engineers to develop their professional skills required to offer technological solutions to real world problems, IETE SF organised a year long innovative project development competition called DJ Strike along with a national level project competition DJ Spark. Here is some more information about them!
DJ STRIKE is a collaborative learning where students from various departments are working together, sharing their knowledge to develop an application based prototype. It starts off with floating projects in various domains followed by forming the groups of SE and TE students mentored by a BE student and guided by a faculty member.
Each group then gives three project topic preferences, exploring topics across a range of subject boundaries which motivates students to pursue further knowledge in different subject areas. One topic is allotted after discussion with faculty coordinators. After finalizing the topic, each group goes through three stages of review process at regular intervals displaying their progress. Each group is evaluated based on various points by faculty coordinators. Each review consists of 50 marks. This review is carried out over a span of four months. The structure of the reviews and guidance given by reviewers helps in the timely submission and systematic approach to complete the project in all aspects. The students are also guided on technical paper writing with each submitted technical paper undergoing thorough plagiarism checks.
After the final review, the top 5 groups are promoted to DJ Spark which is a state level competition and their technical papers are published in DJ spark magazine carrying ISBN number. Rest of the projects are presented during DJ strike competition and their technical papers are published in DJ strike magazine also with ISBN number. DJ strike is a yearlong academic activity where students share and apply their knowledge of Engineering fundamentals and Engineering specialization in order to solve a specific problem. Each student learns how to function effectively as a team member as well as a team leader. It reflects their practical knowledge and enhances the prospect of the student either to get a job or admission for higher studies. Furthermore, it allows more in depth exploration of topics, issues and problems within and across subject areas and discipline.
DJ Spark is a State Level project competition aimed at rekindling an Engineer’s ever present thirst to make, to build, to innovate, and to conquer. It brings together Engineering students from all over Maharashtra inviting them to demonstrate their projects and compete with one another giving them all a common platform. The papers based on their projects submitted in IEEE two column format were thoroughly reviewed and the shortlisted ones were demonstrated on the day of the competition, 10th April 2021. Eminent personalities from academia and industries like our judges Prof Santosh Chapaneri & Prof. Sandeepak Kakatkar who were invited to assess projects based on innovative ideas and applicability. This year, DJ Spark was held online and received some of the most innovative projects that we’ve seen over the years such as Library Anti-theft and Security system, AI Applications in merger, etc.
DJ Spark is not only a platform for the participants to compete but also to share technical ideas and views. The top projects are awarded. The papers of selected projects are published in DJ Spark’s own Technical Journal having an ISBN number. Hence giving them an unprecedented exposure and encouraging them to excel further.
